Adam Lambert Donates 30th Birthday

Adam Lambert celebrated his 30th birthday yesterday, and once again asked his fans to donate to charity instead of sending him presents.

“Last year for my ‘golden birthday’, you gave me the best birthday present I could have asked for — you donated $323,803 to bring clean water to over 16,000 people!” he said. "It felt so amazing to have my fans, friends and family do something so inspiring for my birthday.

“I’ve been asked what I would like people to do this year for my 30th birthday. I’d like to invite you to join me and “give up” your birthday this year.

“Wait until you see how amazing it feels. Together, I bet we can raise over $1 million and bring thousands more people clean water.”

Fans have already pledged over $32,000 to Adam’s appeal, which once again benefits charity:water, an organization that brings clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations.

Dancing With The Stars Louis Van Amstel Talks Charity

Misty Schwartz of Look To The Stars recently caught up with Dancing With the Stars pro Louis Van Amstel, who is on tour to promote his lifestyle brand (and just-released 5-disc workout DVD set) called LaBlast Fitness.

What is the criteria for choosing the charities that you so strongly support?
The criteria that I use is based on what I’m passionate about such as cancer, equal rights, fighting obesity, bullying.

How or why did you choose to get involved?
I lost a very dear friend to breast cancer and decided I wanted to help others that are affected. Fighting breast cancer or any form of cancer is dear to my heart. I have an emotional support for any cancer related causes. Like with Dr. Susan Love, I did Love Jam with her to benefit Cancer Research. I feel that if you don’t have an emotional connection to the charity you won’t be successful in helping it. You have to be very selective when picking the charities you work with and support.

Can you talk a little bit about some of the other causes that you support such as Casa Hogar, an orphanage located in Los Cabos and home to 28 spirited, kind hearted boys.

I visit Casa twice a year and if people want to go I take them there. Casa Hogar is almost 100% operated on private donations. Unfortunately they are out of money.

And how important do you think it is for celebrities to get involved in charity?
It is of utmost importance as a celebrity to use your status to help and give back. Why do you become a celebrity? Because you get a lot of fans to watch your show or buy your products. Therefore you have the life that you have because of the fans and it is nice for you to give back. It doesn’t have to just be giving back through charities, I feel like my dance experience and being on Dancing With The Stars is giving me the ability to change people’s lives. That is why I created LaBlast – in the end it is a business that provides a means for me to do charity events. Lets take people like Marlee Matlin, who is hearing impaired: she uses her star status to help and support the Starkey Hearing Foundation, an organization that gives away free hearing aids to children and adults who need them. Denise Richards, another good friend of mine, does a lot through dog rescue. Sharon and Kelly Osbourne are also great humanitarians.

What is the most annoying thing about people that don’t help?
I hate it when celebrities only use a charity to make themselves look good and will just show up at an event for the photos and gifts and not really care about the charity. Karma will take care of them. Everyone knows that people like Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Madonna, Jennifer Aniston are some of the true ones that have a good balance between making money and giving back. They are true humanitarians.

I see that during your time off from Dancing With The Stars, you set up a not-for profit dance company called “Visionworx Dance Theater,” which combines all four major dance forms. Is that still active and what upcoming events do you have?
Yes it is still in the works, we are building it up and will probably get off the ground this year or next year. The way I’m doing it is a little different from other non-profits.
What plans do you have to make an impact on society this year?
Because I have my LaBlasts DVDs, in an entertaining way I try to let people know that through dance you can lower your cholesterol, you can lose weight, and if you have something like breast cancer dance will bring you back to life – I have the testimonials! So if I can help others with something like Love Jam, it is a big charity event I’m involved with that raises money for breast cancer awareness. I get the whole crowd at Love Jam – all three hundred of them – dancing. That is my contribution to the charity. Obesity beats any other disease in the country and I feel that we can make a difference through dance. If you can make people feel better through dance it will help change the world. People are so scared by certain diets and exercise. The average person will not enjoy or stick to a 3-4 day a week exercise/gym regimen but instead if they can dance at home or go join a dance class it will definitely change the way they view diet/exercises. They need to be educated on when and how to eat and what dance can do for them. I want to do my part through LaBlast, through dance you can become 100% healthier. This process makes you healthier and through dance you’ll naturally lose weight. My passion is what will make me succeed in helping others while helping them stay healthy.

Ellen DeGeneres's And Brad Pitt To Make It Right New Orleans

Make It Right has announced that Ellen DeGeneres will join Brad Pitt as host of “A Night to Make It Right”, a charity gala to raise vital funds to complete Make It Right’s goal to build 150 environmentally friendly homes in New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward.

The gala will be held at Hyatt Regency New Orleans on Saturday, March 10, 2012 and also celebrates the hotel’s grand re-opening. Performers will include Rihanna, Sheryl Crow, Seal and The Neville Brothers, and the host committee includes Sean Penn, Kevin Spacey, Spike Lee, Blake Lively, Djimon Hounsou, Josh Brolin, Bennett Miller and Chris Paul.

“I’m so happy I can be a part of this incredible foundation,” said Ellen DeGeneres, a long-time supporter of Make It Right. “I’m from New Orleans, I love New Orleans and I love that Make It Right continues to help the people there rebuild their beautiful city. Brad Pitt is amazing – not only for what he started, but also because, who else can make a hard hat look like a jaunty fall fashion accessory?”

DeGeneres grew up in New Orleans and has been a tireless advocate for the city’s rebuilding. She and her fans have raised more than $1.6 million for Make It Right and their incredible generosity has helped more than 300 people return home so far.

“After Hurricane Katrina, many people said the Lower 9th Ward could not be rebuilt, but the spirit of the Lower 9th and its residents is vibrant and resilient. Make It Right and some of the world’s most renowned architects have designed and constructed 75 homes in the Lower 9th Ward, the neighborhood hardest hit by Hurricane Katrina. Make It Right’s is establishing new standards for affordable, energy-efficient, single-family homes and the neighborhood is now recognized as the “the largest and greenest community of single-family homes in the world” by the U.S. Green Building Council.

After a decades-long career filled with massive hits like "Bad" and "Thriller," you might think the late Michael Jackson had earned every award out there. Surprisingly, though, the King of Pop was only honored in front of Hollywood's famous Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Thursday during a ceremony featuring his three children. Prince, 14, Paris, 13, and Blanket, 9, used their father's signature shoes and glittery glove to leave his hand and foot prints in the famous sidewalk, alongside those of Marilyn Monroe, Fred Astaire, and many more.

And despite Michael's many other honors, son Prince noted that the star would have found this one meaningful.

"My dad won the lifetime achievement award. It was an award he strived and worked the hardest to get but for me, and I think for him as well, this right here is his lifetime achievement award," Prince revealed. "This is what he strived to get and this is what we are giving him now today."

Looks like we'll never know. Unfortunately, as Justin revealed to "Access Hollywood," the two never crossed paths since the Canadian crooner was just beginning his career when Michael died in June 2009.

"I basically released my first single the week he passed, so it was really unfortunate," Justin said. "So I feel like, it's just really sad. That was one person I really wanted to meet."

Katy Perry will help host a special charity event in Las Vegas on Friday.

The Butter Group, New York City’s preeminent lifestyle and hospitality company, has announced that J. Molinari Jewelry Designers, Markus Molinari and Jason Arasheben, along with Katy Perry, will host a special GiveLove charity event on Friday, January 27, 2012, part of the weekend-long Grand Opening celebration of 1 OAK Las Vegas at The Mirage Hotel & Casino.

Justin Bieber Fans Prepping Birthday-Themed Charity Single

Justin Bieber's fans are working to give back the same way the pop star readily does. Several of Bieber's biggest fan groups, as well as the non-profit Together We Rise and Brush Buddies (the makers behind the singing Bieber toothbrush), have all teamed up to work on a charity single.

"They're all working on pieces of the video and the lyrics. Right now, they're putting together videos and 'thank you's'. We're working on the back end," Danny Mendoza, President/CEO of Together We Rise, which focuses on helping foster children in the U.S, told MTV News about the project.

"It started with a young lady named Vivian, she runs the Justin Crew fan club and she approached it on Twitter. She approached it and she had a lot of fan support," he continued. "She took it upon herself to take a leadership role, and then she contacted me because she needed some guidance. We just decided we'll help you do it. Justin Bieber had tweeted about us in the past and helped us get some recognition, so it was a 'thank you' to him as well."

Proceeds from the song will go toward Bieber's Believe charity drive. It will drop in March, just in time for his 18th birthday on March 1. "I'm almost 100 percent positive that they know," he explained of Bieber's involvement in the project. "Justin Bieber inspired a lot of young people to give back. It's a 'thank you' for helping us and we want to give back in your honor."

Bieber is certainly not a newbie to the world of charity. Mendoza said that having a pop star like Bieber being so socially conscious has been incredible for the charities he helps bring attention to.

"He definitely has the right people around him ... They made it a priority that giving back is more. I think his relationship with [his manager Scooter Braun's brother] Adam Braun and his charity [Pencils of Promise], he was able to see hands on a lot of it.

After Bieber tweeted this week about the Trillium Gift of Life Network, theOntario-based organ donation network has seen registrations skyrocket to more than 1,200 people, four times the amount the network usually receives.

Actress and singer Vanessa Hudgens has donated the Candie’s Couture dress she wore at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards for a public charity auction on eBay to benefit Stand Up To Cancer.

The silk georgette size-two gown, frosted with silver baby sequins, designed exclusively for Hudgens, will go live Monday, January 23rd at 4PM PT/7PM ET through Thursday, February 2 at 4PM PT/7PM ET at ebay.com/vanessahudgens.

Selena Gomez hit the stage for UNICEF in Los Angeles, with Justin Bieber, David Beckham and Ashley Tisdale on hand for support.

Gomez and her band performed at her second annual charity concert at the House Of Blues to benefit the U.S. Fund for UNICEF’s work providing lifesaving nutrition, clean water, medicine, safety and education to children worldwide.

“Thank You to all who came out to the show last night at House of Blues on Sunset,” she wrote on Facebook. "That is one of the shows I look forward to the most and cannot wait for next year’s show.

“I don’t have an exact number but together we all raised over 200,000 dollars to benefit Unicef. We’re helping to save the lives of children all over the world.”

Selena was appointed a UNICEF Ambassador in 2009 and has traveled to Ghana and Chile to witness UNICEF’s work first-hand in the field. She has since supported many of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF’s events, projects and campaigns, including the George Harrison Fund for UNICEF, the UNICEF TAP Project and Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. Selena’s first charity concert to benefit UNICEF was held in celebration of the 60th Anniversary of Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF in October 2010.

“Giving back has always been important to me,” said Selena. “This concert allows me to connect with my fans in person which is one of the best parts of my job and to raise money for important causes at the same time I can’t think of anything I would enjoy doing more.”

The daughter of the funnyman sang at "American Idol's" San Diego auditions, which aired Sunday night. "I'm a huge ham," she said. "I always like to be onstage"

Jane Carrey, 24, is a single mother and a "waitress, on and off." The audition took place on the most natural place in the world for someone to become famous by singing -- on an aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Midway.

"He's not the most extravagant celebrity, so it's been fairly normal. Fairly," said Carrey of her life with her father.

Judge Jennifer Lopez realized she'd met Jane when she and her father were on "In Living Color" in the early '90s.

"I used to work with Jim. Oh, my God! I remember you when you were little!" Lopez said. "Do you remember me? I was one of the fly girls."

No, no one remembers Jennifer Lopez. She's been so quiet and under the radar since then.

Carrey sang "Something to Talk About" by Bonnie Raitt. "I think you need to think more about performing," Lopez said about the audition. "You close your eyes a lot, which is great to get the feeling of it, but you still have to connect with your audience."

"Good melody. You've got to work on the volume," Steven Tyler told Carrey.

We'll get to see more of Carrey because -- surprise, surprise -- the judges decided to send her on to the next round in Hollywood.

LTTS Interview: Young Star Talks Charity

Nine-year-old actor Matthew Wayne may be young, but he has a big heart. The up-and-coming star recently talked to Look To The Stars’ Misty Schwartz about his charity work.

Why did you choose to support the charities you work with?

I support City of Hope and CHOC for cancer research because cancer is still the number one cause of death and I’ve lost several family members to cancer. For the kids with cancer, I want to do all I can to help them – to help the doctors find a cure. It is so unfair for kids, and I never want to take for granted my health. Because of my ability to work and be able to help out, I will always do what I can.

I also support anti-bullying because I’ve been a victim of bullying myself.

I support the SPCA, to benefit prevention of cruelty to animals because I am an animal lover. I do not want to see any defenseless animals abused and mistreated in any way.

How long have you supported them?

I have supported these charities for as long as I’ve been able to, due to my successes as a working actor, which is for about a year and a half now, financially. As for supporting them with my presence and moral support, for as long as I can remember going to events and benefits with my parents – I’ll be 10 soon, so I guess for about 8 years??

How or why did you choose to get involved?

My parents and I talked about which charities I would want to support, with donations and my time and involvement with causes, if I ever had the opportunity to do so. They told me about how cancer took the lives of my grandmother, my aunt, my great grandfather and several uncles, not to mention my own experience seeing kids on TV who are suffering from cancer, which made me sad and made me want to help them somehow. So supporting cancer research and children’s cancer/hospital facilities was an easy decision.

As for the bullying, that was because of my own experiences of being bullied.

The animal charities are simple…. as I said before, I LOVE ANIMALS!

Can you talk a little bit about some of the other causes you support?

I could, but you’d need a week or so to sit down and hear me out!! I love to do whatever I can to help people less fortunate than myself and my family. We may not have it all, but we have more than a lot of people and I think everyone should help everyone. Wouldn’t that make this world a better place to live? So, I do what I can because it makes me feel good! I am involved in helping the homeless by going to events and walks to raise money for housing, or food, or medicine – all kinds of things for families and people who need help. I donate toys to things like Toys for Tots at Christmas to name but one of many gift raising charities around the holidays. There’s so much more that can be done too, but I am only one person. EVERYONE needs to get involved!

And how important do you think it is for celebrities to get involved in charity?

I think it is very important to ‘give back’. Celebrities are very visible to the public and therefore can set an example and be good role models for others to follow suit and join in on these causes. It is extremely important to me to set that example.

Coldplay To Play Charity Gig In Los Angeles

Coldplay will perform live at a special iHeartRadio Benefit Concert on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012 at Club Nokia at L.A. LIVE.

Proceeds from the show will benefit A Place Called Home and Youth Mentoring Connection, two Los Angeles based youth charities. The iHeartRadio benefit concert will be presented by Clear Channel Media and Entertainment Los Angeles radio stations KIIS FM, 98-7fm and MYFM.

Coldplay, the seven time Grammy award winning group, is known for their activism and international charity work. The group released their fifth album, Mylo Xyloto, in October 2011 and also performed at the inaugural iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas.

“It’s a special scenario for the Los Angeles radio stations and iHeartRadio to have an opportunity to collaborate with Coldplay to support the work of two great local organizations that directly impact the LA community,” said John Ivey, Senior Vice President of Programming, Clear Channel Media and Entertainment. “Coldplay in this intimate setting will be an amazing experience for the audience, plus concert-goers will be helping support LA’s at-risk youth.”

iHeartRadio will partner with A Place Called Home and Youth Mentoring Connection to raise money for the two Los Angeles based charities. A Place Called Home provides a safe haven in South Central Los Angeles for underserved youth. They provide programs in education, arts and well-being to empower youth to take ownership of the quality and direction of their lives. Youth Mentoring Connection matches at-risk youth with caring adult mentors to help them awaken to their power, unique gifts and purpose. The structured group dynamic provides the resources youth need to reach productive, conscious adulthood.

'Hunger Games' Stars Agree: Josh Hutcherson Is The Most Like His Character

If Josh Hutcherson's portrayal of Peeta—the District 12 tribute whose affections for baked goods are surpassed only by his love for fellow Games player Katniss Everdeen—seems perfectly effortless, there's a reason. According to the stars of the March 23 release, Josh is the cast member most like the character he portrays.

"Josh. Josh is Peeta," Jennifer confirmed, when posed the fan question from@RealOrNotReal. "He's charming, he's nice, he's very real and down to earth, he's not fake in any way. He just can charm anyone and anything."

And, in a mature bit of self-awareness, Josh himself copped to the uncanny likeness.

"Oh, God, this is going to sound so stupid: Me, because I have literally never read a character, book or script or anything that has a character in it I connected with more than Peeta," he said. "I feel like so much of who I am is Peeta. It drove me crazy during the audition process, because I was like, "This is so me, it hurts. If I don't get this, I'm not even good at being me, so now what am I? I have no idea what to do next."

Gosh, glad he landed that role!

Victoria Justice Named As Donatemydress.org Spokesperson

Nickelodeon star Victoria Justice is the official celebrity spokesperson for the 2012 DonateMyDress.org (DMD) campaign.

This prom season, Donate My Dress also partners with Always, the leader in feminine protection, for its annual Purple Dress Awards, which recognize the most outstanding chapters in the DonateMyDress.org network.

Once 25,000 girls choose their dress styles, Always will donate $25,000 so that five deserving DonateMyDress.org chapters across the United States receive $5,000 each through the organization’s Purple Dress Awards.

Kim Kardashian Blogs On Haitian Earthquake Annivarsary

Kim Kardashian marked the second anniversary of the earthquake in Haiti on January 12 by blogging her support for those still struggling to recover, and the many people working to help those in need.

“It is so hard for us to imagining waking up one day to find everything we own destroyed, everything we know turned upside down, our loved ones taken away in the blink of an eye,” she blogged. "But this was the reality for thousands of Haitian people, who had little time to grieve their losses and bravely started rebuilding their world.

“In December Maria Bello invited my mom and I out to Haiti to meet the amazing people who have made so much progress since the earthquake. I was amazed and inspired by how upbeat and strong the women I met were, despite everything they had been through. They took it upon themselves to start re-growing their economy and helping others do the same, and I have so much admiration for these women.

“But even though they have come so far, there is still a long way to go. Half a million people are still homeless, living in temporary camps, and I think it’s important that we keep spreading awareness and raising funds for the continued rebuilding of Haiti. It’s easy to throw the newspaper away or click away from this blog post and forget, but please let’s all spare a thought for the people of Haiti today and help in any way we can.

Meet Madonna And Help Sean Penn's Charity In Haiti

Since her rise to super celebrity status, Madonna has auctioned everything from her gold-embellished tassled bustier to autographed Chanel boots to penned love letters. Now, the pop queen and living legend is putting herself on the online auction block for the first time ever to raise funds for a cause close to her heart.

Madonna has partnered with leading charity auction website Charitybuzz.com to offer the chance for one lucky winning bidder and a friend to meet her at the January 23rd premiere and afterparty for her newest film W.E. in New York City.

The experience, valued at $25,000, will raise funds for J/P Haitian Relief Organization (J/P HRO), a nonprofit founded by Madonna’s ex-husband Sean Penn to rebuild the infrustructure destroyed by the earthquake and combat the poverty that the majority of Haitians are facing.

'Twilight' saga may continue after fifth film, Lions Gate CEO says

"The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2" may not be the end of Bella, Edward and Jacob's on-screen journey, according to the head of the franchise's new Hollywood home.

The chief executive of Lions Gate Entertainment, which on Friday acquired "Twilight" film studio Summit Entertainment for $412.5 million, said he believes the film franchise will continue to have value to his company,even after the Nov. 16 release of the fifth movie completes the adaptation of author Stephenie Meyer's four books.

"I'm anticipating 'Breaking Dawn Part 2' being $700 million-plus in worldwide box office," said Jon Feltheimer, predicting the next film would slightly outdo the $697 million global take of "Breaking Dawn Part 1."

Asked whether the franchise would continue in some form for Lions Gate, he added, "It's hard for me to imagine a movie that does $700 million-plus doesn't have ongoing value. It's an amazing franchise that they have done a great job of maintaining with absolutely no deterioration. So the simple answer is 'Boy I hope so.'"

One person close to the acquisition deal but not authorized to speak publicly suggested that because Lions Gate, unlike Summit, has a television production unit, it could adapt "Twilight" for the small screen.

Asked whether there was a possibility of bringing "Twilight" to television, Feltheimer answered, "I would certainly hope so."
