If you can and are willing to help, please leave us a comment and we will put more details together. On April 19th, we need volunteers to help install the smoke detectors and we need to start raising money now! Let's be a part of Big Give with Oprah, Captain Mike Bowman, and Channel 30. Read the following from Channel 30...

L8R...deko and posh

The popularity of Oprah’s BIG GIVE television show on ABC30 is huge and now, the opportunity to help people right here in the Central Valley has arrived!

Oprah challenged ABC30…what would we do with $10,000? We answered the challenge with a plan that could include everyone in Central California and have a real impact on saving lives right here at home.

ABC30 donated the $10,000 to the Fresno County Fire Department to jump-start their Early Detection Program…a mission that rose from the ashes of a tragedy in February of 2007, when fire took the lives of two little girls in Calwa. Their home, like so many in Fresno County, was not equipped with a smoke alarm. The mother, Sylvia Escalante, joined forces with Cal Fire and began a door-to-door campaign to install free smoke detectors in low-income neighborhoods.

Now, with ABC30’s $10,000 check and a generous discount on the price of each smoke detector from KIDDE, one of the largest smoke detector manufacturers in the world, the final push to install a smoke detector in 9,000 Fresno County homes is on…but we need YOUR help!

On April 19, 2008, the day before Oprah’s BIG GIVE Finale, the Fresno County Fire Department will travel to 4 Fresno County communities - Huron, Parlier, Easton and Tranquility - to go door-to-door and install smoke detectors in homes that have none. Cal Fire will need volunteers to help with this ambitious task and more money to reach the $45,000 needed to purchase the remaining smoke detectors.

This is what it’s all about…the time has come to GIVE BIG!
