Sophia Bush Donates Her 30th Birthday To Charity

Sophia Bush is donating her 30th birthday on July 8 to Pencils of Promise, with a goal of raising $30,000 (#30for30) to build a school in a displaced village in Guatemala she recently visited with the organization.
Fund raising as an ambassador of the organization’s upcoming “Impossible Ones” campaign, Sophia is offering fans the chance to win a trip to join her when she visits the school they build in Guatemala. Fans can enter to win by donating $30 to her 30 for 30 campaign and submitting a 250 word essay about overcoming their own “Impossible” challenge in their lives – a fear they have to overcome, a big milestone to reach, a challenge they’ve been putting off. Full details for the contest can be found here.
“I’ve been incredibly fortunate in life these past 30 years, but the thing that has shaped my life the most is certainly my education,” says Sophia. "I’ve had access to schools and teachers that have broadened my horizons and changed my life. I am who I am, as a woman and a global citizen because of education. And I want that for every girl, every child, in the world. On a recent impact trip with Pencils of Promise, I met a group of young children in Guadalupana, Guatemala. I asked them what they wanted most in the world, and in unison they screamed “a school!!’ I knew I had found the village for this campaign. It will cost $30,000 to build the school and I know we can make that happen!”
The Impossible Ones campaign is built by the spirit of a Millennial generation that thrives on achieving what’s labeled as “impossible.” The campaign asks PoP supporters to join a fund raising initiative to help children in impoverished communities around the world tackle the Impossible Challenge in front of them: access to education. Pencils of Promise set its own challenge of building 100 schools in 2012 and needs a community of leaders we call The Impossible Ones to come together to make a sustainable school system a possibility for thousands of kids.
