Political Drama Column by Thomas-Outrage

Hello V.I.T.s,

Today I want to share with you one word..............OUTRAGE.
Outrage is the product of anger and resentment. It is the feeling you get when you are totally disgusted and angry. This week I watched the Congressional hearings concerning the failings of the Security Exchange Commission, The SEC. They are the federal agency that is suppose to watch Wall Street and all the brokers and traders. Congressman Gary Ackerman from New York was "grilling" the senior staff of the SEC as to why they failed to see how Bernard Maydoff swindled 50 billion dollars from investors. His "outrage" and contempt was outstanding.
Outrage is what a lot of people are beginning to feel all over this country. Watch below...

For the past eight years we have been lied to, cheated by and left totally betrayed by the Bush administration. Now people are losing jobs, their home and their savings. President Obama is trying to undo and get this country back on track but we still have some foot dragging Congressmen and Senators trying to derail his efforts. Everyone needs to feel the "outrage" and start writing and calling these foot dragging congressmen and senators. Tell them that "we are mad as hell and we are not going to put up with their crap anymore." They are suppose to represent us, not no lobbyist or fat cat. Give us back our government or get out. Now, that's outrage.. Lets channel all that anger and make this country great again.

Wow that felt good!!!! Thomas

Actually, the economic downfall (and recession) began two years ago--when the Democrats took over Congress. And, the current "stimulus" package is actually an unprecedented spending bill that does not guarantee jobs or that people will not lose their homes or their savings. While I applaud the enthusiasm here on your web site, your political views need to be based more on facts than rhetoric. Otherwise, very good web site.

Sorry, have to agree with Sherry on this. Deko and Posh, as successful business owners, you'll probably change your views somewhat as you're asked to give up more and more of your income as time goes on but your business will mean nothing if there's another terrorist attack in your city. All I'm saying is that in 4 years, you might change your view.

Actually, Posh, I was responding to the text below the video. Isn't that part of the original Thomas post? Just trying to keep the discussion fact-based. No need to go all postal on me. ;-)

I would like to thank Sherry and Ron for their responses. It seems like their major criticism was that I was long on rhetoric and short on the facts. Fair enough. Let me list you the facts:
Fact #1 - The economic down turn really began 19 months ago. You can track the stock market and the leading economic indicators to illustrate this. The factors that lead to this recession began in 2001. This isn't about Democrats or Republicans. To say that would be too simplistic. Our government has allowed the financial institutions to self govern themselves. Alan Greenspan has stated that was a major fault to our financial situation. Its kind of like letting the fox guard the hen house. The federal government relaxed regulations which would have sounded alarms years ago.
Fact #2 - The Democrats didn't take over Congress 2 yrs ago. A Democratic majority was elected to the House of Representatives in 2006. While the Senate was stilled controlled by a Republican majority. The new Democratic majority in the House was due mainly to a majority sentiment in the country against the Iraqi War.
Fact #3 - 25 yrs ago the USA was a "creditor" country. Which means we loan money to other nations and exerted our influence in the process. Today we are a "debtor" country. We owe money to China, Japan, the UK and Brazil. It will take 50 yrs to pay off this debt. When China says "jump" all we can say is "how high".
Fact #4 - The Clinton Administration left the federal budget the largest budget surplus ever and now the Bush Administration has left a trillion dollar deficit.
Fact #5 - A "stimulus" is to stimulate or excite. And how do you "stimulate" a stagnant economy? You have to spend money and offer incentives that will "stimulate" the economy.

I'm sorry if I'm a little long on facts and short on rhetoric. Oh, one more thing - did either of you watch the SEC hearings? I didn't think so.
