Amelia's Book Room: Gender Blender

Emma and Tom used to be the best of friends—but now, in middle school, everything’s different. The guys play sports, the girls are Girl Scouts, and it’s unheard of to be friends with the opposite gender. There’s also the Grrlzillas, a group of popular girls led by Courtney Hall.

Tom just wants to get on the baseball team and kiss his crush, Kelly A. Emma, meanwhile, wants Jeff Mathews to notice her. Then, everything gets a little more confusing: they switch bodies. Until they figure out how to get rid of this weird curse, Emma has to act like a boy, learn how to play baseball, while Tom struggles with her packed schedule and Jeff, who suddenly takes an interest in her—well, him.

Gender Blender is a classic, hilarious book, with enjoyable “ew!” moments and comical situations. Author Blake Nelson has written novels including Girl, Exile, and Rock Star Superstar. I hope you enjoy this quirky, fun book!

I wanted to mention that this May’s issue of Teen Vogue magazine is all about being green, and has some cool Eco-friendly shopping suggestions; I forgot to add this in last week’s Earth Day review! Please join the Dekoposh Book Club, and happy reading!
