Drew Seeley Rocks Out for Hospitalized Teens
Receiving a song written for you by a celebrity might sound like a fairy tale, but for one girl battling cancer, it's a reality. Another Cinderella Story star Drew Seeley is teaming up with Music is Medicine, and organization that uses music to help ill children get through their difficult time in the hospital. The organization was started by sisters Leora and Ariela Friedman at the ages of 15 and 19, respectively. By writing and recording songs inspired by the children, the organization offers a positive outlet for kids battling illness.
Drew jumped on board to write and record a song for Brooke, a patient at John Hopkins Hospital, and Celebs Gone Good had the chance to to talk to him about his experience.
Do Something: How did you hear about Music is Medicine?
Drew Seeley: Through a very special girl, Brooke, who is a big fan of a movie I was in a few years ago—Another Cinderella Story. Apparently, when she was asked who she’d like to write her a song, she said ME! I’m flattered, honored, and working hard on it right now.
DS: What do you think about Music is Medicine being founded by two teenagers?
Drew: It’s very inspiring. The moment I spoke to Leora I knew this was a genuine effort and jumped at the chance to be involved.
DS: What encouraged you to step up to the plate?
Drew: We’re all in the same boat living this life together, dealing with whatever comes our way. I’m lucky to be able to inspire people by doing what I love.
DS: What did you and Brooke talk about on Skype?
Drew: We talked about soccer and photography and movies. And we laughed at each other in awkward silence a lot too—Skype is a funny thing!

DS: How do you feel you’ve made a difference in Brooke’s life?
Drew: Well, I hope she enjoys the song when it’s finished (and that more musicians get involved and spread the word!). I want to see Brooke bounce back with 8 times the motivation she had before! I want her to pay it forward and to inspire other kids she knows who are dealing with illnesses or other difficult issues.
DS: What advice would you give to teens who want to help but don’t know how to play an instrument or sing?
Drew: Learn! It’s NEVER too late to learn! Also, you don’t have to be a musician to make a difference. Be proactive and find an area that really means something to you, where you can selflessly give your time. It’s worth it on so many levels.
