Angelina Jolie Named U.N. Special Envoy
Reasons we’re beyond excited for Angie (besides the fact that she and Brad just got engaged)—she was named a Special Envoy for the United Nations refugee agency.
Known for her many acts of good, Jolie has made over 40 field visits worldwide during her time as a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador. Just when we thought we couldn’t love her more. As a result, the actress is a rockstar advocate for these refugees, who have been forcibly displaced.
"Her work does go substantially beyond what we would typically see as being the normal role of a Goodwill Ambassador," spokesman Adrian Edwards told reporters in Geneva. "I don't think you need a rocket scientist to see the benefits that she is bringing in terms of the attention that she is getting for the plight of the world's displaced."
This is the first time the UNHCR has named a Special Envoy. This means that Jolie can represent the organization, while interacting with other governments and diplomats. Pretty cool, huh? We think so too.
