Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution

Jamie Oliver
World famous chef Jamie Oliver is cookin’ up a new dish. Get ready because there’s going to be a food revolution! We know all you foodies must be thrilled.
Oliver, 36, says his love of food was inspired at an early age. He grew up in the kitchen of his dad’s pub in Essex, UK, surrounded by all the smells, sounds, and tastes of cooking.
“I loved being in the kitchen and, as soon as I was big enough, I used to help out with all the little jobs like peeling vegetables and picking herbs,” he recounted. “That was my lifeline really.”
Now Oliver is taking his love of food, the wish to share his knowledge on healthy eating and combining it into the ultimate “nom” day. On May 19 everyone with a taste for delicious eats can come together and pass on their wealth of info to make a difference.
According to the UK native, there are many individual projects worldwide that promote food education, but there is no overarching platform that unites it all. And that’s what Food Revolution Day looks to do.
“We want to change the way people eat by educating every child about food, giving families the skills and knowledge to cook from scratch again and motivating people to stand up for their right to better food,” said Oliver.
Over 12.5 million young people 19 and younger in the U.S. are overweight or obese. Worldwide, there are nearly 43 million under the age of 5, who are overweight said Oliver. And of that number, almost 35 million live in developed countries, while the remaining 8 million live in developing.
The Jamie Oliver Food Foundation (JOFF) aims to fight obesity and promote healthier eating habits through food education and cooking skills. And take it from the man with the iron skillet—there’s no excuse for not eating right.
“I’m always amazed when people say they are too busy to eat well, as it really takes minutes to put together a delicious meal if you have the knowledge,” stated Oliver.
