Welcome to College

Hey guys! I'm Jen, the new College Life columnist for the Deko & Posh blog. I'm really excited for this opprotunity and can't thank them enough for giving me the chance to spread my writing wings and try something new.

For this first column, I'm just going to talk about myself and some of the goals I have for the column. If you have any questions, comments, advice, anything just leave it at the end of any of my post. I'll try my best to answer whatever it is.

What to say about myself? I'm 18, almost 19 (my birthday is in 22 days! April 23). I'm getting ready to finish up my first year in college. It's been an interesting year, that's for sure. I've learned a lot of things, both inside the classroom and out. I hope I can share my knowledge of college life in the best way I know how. I have a lot of topics that I want to talk about and as I experience the rest of my college career, I hope I can help you guys even more. Anyway, back to talking about me. I'm a first generation college student. That means that no one in my family (parents, grandparents, etc.) have never been to college or gotten a college degree. That puts a lot of stess on me to do well and live up to a lot of expectations, but it doesn't bother me. I have 2 younger sisters, 16 & 15, and a little brother who's 11. I have a dog, but he lives at home with the rest of my family. I like the color pink, to the point that most people would call me obsessed. I, like most of the rest of the young female population, love the Jonas Brothers. Ok, so it kinda helps that they're good looking, but that's not the only reason I like them. In fact, it's not even one of the top 5 reasons I like them. They're great role models who inspire me to do whatever it takes to reach my dreams. Their music inspires me more than I've ever been inspired before. They have morals and values that I haven't seen in young Hollywood in a long time, if ever. Taylor Swift is another musician that really inspires me. I'm so excited that I get to see her in concert for my birthday! Her music has gotten me through some rough relationship issues. I think it's really brave of her to be able to write about her emotions like that. It takes a lot to have your feelings out there for the world to hear and sing.

RAPID FIRE!
Favorite Candy: Hershey with Almonds
Favorite T.V. Show: 90201
Favorite Reality Show: American Idol (gotta support the hometown boy Kris Allen!)
Favorite Book: To Kill A Mockingbird
Favorite Author: Honestly, this list could go on forever, but right now I'm in love with Stephenie Meyer, the author of the Twilight series. She writes really well. I love her style
Favorite Movie: 10 Things I Hate About You, so excited that it's going to be a T.V. show!
Favorite Actor: Johnny Depp, hands down. He is never the same person in any of his movies and to me, that's true acting.
Favorite Actress: Kiera Knightly. I love her period pieces. She always amazes me.
Favorite Band: Right now I'm really into Hey Monday, All Time Low, and Mayday Parade. Check them out.
Quote to Live By: "You see things; and you say 'Why?' But I dream things that never were; and say 'Why not?'" -George Bernard Shaw

I'll be posting my regular column on Thursdays, but this one is up early because I have a huge history test tomorrow and wanted to get it up before I threw myself into my notes and started studying. Have a great week everyone! I'll get the first real column up next week. I've got a whole list of things to choose from to talk about.

Keep it real!
Jen
