Amelia's Book Room: Sloppy Firsts

I recently re-read Sloppy Firsts, the first book in one of my favorite series', the Jessica Darling series, and it was just as great as I remembered it. Jessica is 16, and lives in the town of Pineville, New Jersey. Her best friend, Hope, just moved to Tennessee.

Meanwhile, she's got other problems; she couldn't be more unlike her mother and sister, who are both the blond, preppy cheerleader type. The only thing she and her dad talk about is running, which she's getting pretty tired of. Then there's the Clueless Crew, her so-called friends, who spend their time worrying about their weight and going out with each other's boyfriends behind their backs.

And most confusing of all is Marcus Flutie, notorious "Krispy Kreme" at Pineville High. He's suddenly taken an interest in Jessica, but he's connected to the death of Hope's brother, and she feels guilty befriending him. Megan McCafferty has written five books for this series; I'm only up to the third, but I'm super excited for the last novel, Perfect Fifths. These books are definitely for mature readers, though!

I hope you've been reading Chasing Dandelions for the Dekoposh Book Club, because we're discussing it next Monday at 6 PM! Happy reading!
