Daily Good Gossip

Alexis Bledel In Times Square For Save The Children

Gilmour Girls’ Alexis Bledel showed up in Times Square today as hundreds of people joined together to form a human mosaic portraying a Nigerian health care worker with a child.

The event was in support of Save the Children and Health Workers Count. Alexis was helping to deliver the message to world leaders who are in New York this week attending the UN Summit.

Health workers are everyday heroes – they save lives. 350 million children never see a health worker in their lives so millions of children die every year from easily treatable conditions such as such as pneumonia and diarrhoea. Save the Children and other organizations are working together to change this.

Across the globe, celebrities like Alexis Bledel, Ashley Jensen and Christy Turlington have joined to put pressure on leaders to take action at the UN to make sure no child dies because they can’t see a doctor.

“It is unimaginable to go through birth and life without ever receiving the advice of a health worker,” said Christy Turlington. “We know that training just one health worker could help deliver life-saving treatments and save many lives. No mother should die giving life, and no child is born to die. It’s time for world leaders to close the health worker gap.”

World leaders need to use the UN General Assembly in New York this week to make new, substantial and specific commitments to expand the number of health workers and better support those workers already in place.

Amelia's Book Room: Tuck Everlasting

Most of you guys have probably already read this book in school, but it’s very good, so I decided to review it.

Natalie Babbitt’s Tuck Everlasting is a classic story about young Winnie Foster and the Tuck family. After drinking from an enchanted spring, the Tucks are sentenced to eternal life. Winnie escapes from home, which seems more like a prison, and stumbles upon the (seemingly) teenage Jesse.

He is forced to bring Winnie home when she sees the spring and pleads for a drink, unknowing of its curse. Though angry at first, Winnie gets used to Mae, Tuck, Miles and Jesse, learning their secret. However, there’s a mysterious man in a yellow suit looking for the Tucks…

This is a very interesting book, concerning matters of friendship, trust, and life and death. Though sad, I like Tuck Everlasting a lot; it’s very well written and fun to read. It has been made into a film twice, once in 1981, with Margaret Chamberlain and Paul Flessa, and again in 2002, starring Gilmore Girls' Alexis Bledel as Winnie, along with William Hurt, Sissy Spacek, and Ben Kingsley.

Once again, I’d like to remind you about the Dekoposh Book Club. I think it’ll be very fun, and thing’s will get interesting once we get more members!

I hope everyone watched the Inauguration this morning; my thoughts go out to Senator Kennedy.

Here’s to a better future for America! Happy reading!
