New York Yankees Support Bully Film
The Weinstein Company (TWC) has announced that the New York Yankees are the latest group in a long list of celebrities and public figures who are stepping out to support BULLY, which is expanding to theaters nationwide Friday, April 13th, with a recent PSA they shot during spring training in Tampa, Florida.
Yankees Manager Joe Girardi, along with players Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Mariano Rivera and Curtis Granderson took a timeout from practice at Steinbrenner Field to speak up about the effects bullying has on children and what people can do to make a change.
The 30-second PSA can be seen here.
“When a community of people come together, we have the ability to enact positive change through our words and actions,” said Yankees manager Joe Girardi. "Bullying is a problem too powerful to ignore, and I’m proud to stand alongside so many others in raising awareness for this meaningful cause. "
“The Yankees are idolized by young people everywhere, so they really are perfect ambassadors for this film and its message,” said TWC President of Marketing Stephen Bruno. “We’re thrilled to have their voices in the mix.”
Other celebrities and public figures have stepped out in their own ways to help get the film’s message out including: Justin Bieber featuring his song “Born To Be Somebody” in a BULLY TV spot; Ellen DeGeneres featuring the families from the film on her show; Meryl Streep and attorneys David Boies and Ted Olson hosting an NYC screening; Victoria Justice, Giuliana Rancic and Joel McHale hosting the LA premiere; Anderson Cooper and Kelly Ripa hosting an NYC screening; Anderson Cooper hosting a town hall special on CNN to discuss bullying with Dr. Phil McGraw, Kelly Ripa and BULLY director Lee Hirsch; Tommy Hilfiger designing t-shirts; the dozens of celebrities who tweeted to help #BullyMovie trend; and many other supporters shooting PSAs. Companies including Bing and Twitter have partnered to help in the quest to reach as many parents, teachers and children as possible. And, in a move that inspired and rallied hundreds of thousands of supporters, Michigan high school student Katy Butler garnered more than half a million signatures on her petition to the MPAA on Change.org to lower BULLY’s R rating, which subsequently happened last week.
Efforts to pass the Safe Schools Improvement Act are also in the works after TWC Co-Chairman Harvey Weinstein’s recent meeting with Senator Bob Casey. This bill will amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 to address and take action to prevent bullying and harassment of students.
BULLY leads all non-fiction films so far for 2012 with its strong opening weekend attendance.

Daughtry To Donate Portion of Tour Proceeds To Charity
Rockers Daughtry have announced the first leg of their upcoming tour in support of the multi-platinum selling rock band’s third album, Break The Spell (19 Recordings/RCA Records). Tickets go on sale over the next two weeks beginning Friday, January 20th, with some of the proceeds going to charity.
Daughtry’s “Break The Spell Tour” will begin its first leg on March 20 in Buffalo, NY and continue through April 30 when it concludes in New York, NY. Singer Chris Daughtry, guitarists Josh Steely and Brian Craddock, bassist Josh Paul and drummer Robin Diaz are excited to bring their bigger than life show into theaters across the country to provide an intimate experience for fans.
Daughtry is pleased to welcome special guest Nashville-based pop rock group SafetySuit whose new album These Times debuted No. 7 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. Opening the show is singer-songwriter Mike Sanchez.
Daughtry is also dedicated to using its position to raise awareness about a number of charitable causes. For the “Break The Spell 2012 Tour,” the band will help combat Africa’s battle against malaria by donating $1 from every ticket sold to Malaria No More, a leading humanitarian organization determined to end malaria deaths in Africa by 2015.
The upcoming first leg of the tour will give fans a chance to experience a number of new tracks from Break The Spell, like the chart-climbing hits “Crawling Back To You” and “Renegade.” Singer Chris Daughtry says: “We recorded a hard-hitting rock album that is primed to blow the doors off these great theaters. Fans who come out are going to get an incredible show every night.”

Daughtry has scored four No. 1 hits, garnered four Grammy nominations, sold over seven million albums and played sold out concerts around the world in less than four years. Daughtry’s self-titled debut was the fastest selling rock debut in Soundscan history and its follow up Leave This Town marked the quintet’s second consecutive No. 1 album. Daughtry’s latest album Break The Spell, which was certified gold in 4 weeks, builds on the band’s reputation for melodic hooks and anthemic choruses while providing a powerful showcase for Chris Daughtry’s emotionally resonant voice.

LTTS Interview: Young Star Talks Charity
Nine-year-old actor Matthew Wayne may be young, but he has a big heart. The up-and-coming star recently talked to Look To The Stars’ Misty Schwartz about his charity work.

Why did you choose to support the charities you work with?
I support City of Hope and CHOC for cancer research because cancer is still the number one cause of death and I’ve lost several family members to cancer. For the kids with cancer, I want to do all I can to help them – to help the doctors find a cure. It is so unfair for kids, and I never want to take for granted my health. Because of my ability to work and be able to help out, I will always do what I can.
I also support anti-bullying because I’ve been a victim of bullying myself.
I support the SPCA, to benefit prevention of cruelty to animals because I am an animal lover. I do not want to see any defenseless animals abused and mistreated in any way.
How long have you supported them?
I have supported these charities for as long as I’ve been able to, due to my successes as a working actor, which is for about a year and a half now, financially. As for supporting them with my presence and moral support, for as long as I can remember going to events and benefits with my parents – I’ll be 10 soon, so I guess for about 8 years??
How or why did you choose to get involved?
My parents and I talked about which charities I would want to support, with donations and my time and involvement with causes, if I ever had the opportunity to do so. They told me about how cancer took the lives of my grandmother, my aunt, my great grandfather and several uncles, not to mention my own experience seeing kids on TV who are suffering from cancer, which made me sad and made me want to help them somehow. So supporting cancer research and children’s cancer/hospital facilities was an easy decision.
As for the bullying, that was because of my own experiences of being bullied.
The animal charities are simple…. as I said before, I LOVE ANIMALS!
Can you talk a little bit about some of the other causes you support?
I could, but you’d need a week or so to sit down and hear me out!! I love to do whatever I can to help people less fortunate than myself and my family. We may not have it all, but we have more than a lot of people and I think everyone should help everyone. Wouldn’t that make this world a better place to live? So, I do what I can because it makes me feel good! I am involved in helping the homeless by going to events and walks to raise money for housing, or food, or medicine – all kinds of things for families and people who need help. I donate toys to things like Toys for Tots at Christmas to name but one of many gift raising charities around the holidays. There’s so much more that can be done too, but I am only one person. EVERYONE needs to get involved!
And how important do you think it is for celebrities to get involved in charity?
I think it is very important to ‘give back’. Celebrities are very visible to the public and therefore can set an example and be good role models for others to follow suit and join in on these causes. It is extremely important to me to set that example.

Victoria Justice Named As Donatemydress.org Spokesperson
Nickelodeon star Victoria Justice is the official celebrity spokesperson for the 2012 DonateMyDress.org (DMD) campaign.
This prom season, Donate My Dress also partners with Always, the leader in feminine protection, for its annual Purple Dress Awards, which recognize the most outstanding chapters in the DonateMyDress.org network.
“Girls who cannot afford to buy new dresses often have to make the hard choice between wearing dresses they don’t feel good in or skipping prom altogether”
The DMD campaign is designed to encourage girls around the country to donate their prom and special occasion dresses to girls in need. Later this year, Victoria Justice will donate one of her own dresses to a deserving girl.
“I’m really excited to be a part of the DMD organization. Prom can be really expensive; this program is an easy way for girls everywhere to get involved and help other girls in need. In addition to serving as DMD’s 2012 spokeswoman, I’m excited to donate a dress for the first time this year too. I’ll be giving the Jill Stuart dress that I wore to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards to help someone have a night to remember.”
In support of the Purple Dress Awards, Always will donate $1 for every girl who visits the Always Facebook page and chooses her favorite prom dress style. Once 25,000 girls choose their dress styles, Always will donate $25,000 so that five deserving DonateMyDress.org chapters across the United States receive $5,000 each through the organization’s Purple Dress Awards.
“Girls who cannot afford to buy new dresses often have to make the hard choice between wearing dresses they don’t feel good in or skipping prom altogether,” says Lucy Maher, executive director, network programming of Hearst Digital Media. “DMD is committed to helping girls, and, through this partnership with Always, it takes just choosing a dress on Facebook for girls – and their moms, aunts, sisters, friends – to help make others’ prom dreams come true.”
To get involved, visit the Always Facebook page, choose a favorite prom dress style and Always will donate $1 to DonateMyDress.org. The Purple Dress Award winners can use this financial support to help offset the operational and programming expenses of their organization – which may include everything from dry cleaning and mending dresses, to empowerment workshops and space for dress drives.
“Prom is a special event in a teen’s girl life and an experience that no girl should miss because she doesn’t have a dress,” says Sarah Innes, Always Marketing Director. “Always is committed to helping girls feel confident, especially on prom night. By supporting DonateMyDress.org, we’re able to help girls realize their prom dreams and encourage girls to help others feel their best this prom season.”
For more information and to learn how to donate previously worn dresses to local chapters, please visit DonateMyDress.org.
DonateMyDress.org is the first national campaign designed to encourage girls around the country to donate their prom and special occasion dresses to girls who cannot afford to finance the costly experience of going to their prom, Sweet 16, Quinceañera or formal on their own. The site features a directory of more than 100 local dress drive organizations across the U.S. enabling girls to easily find out where in their local markets they can donate a dress or receive one. In addition, DonateMyDress.org features information on upcoming local events, a photo gallery of real girls donating and receiving dresses, as well as links to content on prom and quinceañera planning, hair and makeup tips, and other worthy causes. A number of young celebrities have been involved with DonateMyDress.org, includingAshley Greene, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Nikki Blonsky and Brittany Snow, all of whom have donated their own dresses to the cause.

Supermodel Doutzen Kroes Joins Charity Campaign

As part of their ongoing support of philanthropic programs, A|X Armani Exchange has partnered with dance4life and their current ambassador – supermodel Doutzen Kroes – to design an exclusive dance4life t-shirt to benefit the dance4life organization.

Doutzen Kroes collaborated with Mr. Armani on this special A|X Armani Exchange 100% cotton unisex tee that features a black and white allover photo print of Doutzen Kroes with the words “Dance-Dance-Dance” printed in bold red across the body. Armani Exchange will launch this limited edition dance4life tee on December 1, 2011 (World AIDS Day) in all A|X stores and online at armaniexchange.com.

The dance4life t-shirt will retail for $35, with 100% of the profits ($25) from the sale of tee supporting dance4life education initiatives and their efforts to create programs that inspire, educate, and mobilize young people to lead the global dance4life movement to stop the spread of HIV and AIDS.

“Dance is an amazing way to reach young people and inform them about HIV and AIDS, and that’s why I have been dance4life’s ambassador for over three years,” said Doutzen Kroes. “Because of Armani Exchange’s strong history with dance music and great style, partnering with dance4life to design this t-shirt is the perfect combination. I’m excited to share dance4life’s message through the t-shirt, and inspire everyone who wears it to make a difference by supporting this important cause.”

Doutzen Kroes will celebrate the partnership with a personal appearance at the A|X Armani Exchange store in the Soho District, NYC on Wednesday, November 30, from 4PM-5PM.

Like Armani Exchange, the dance4life organization uses the universal language of music and dance as well as youth icons to connect with young people across the globe. The launch of the dance4life tee supports the A|X brand message of personal freedom and expression.

The importance of HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention through education has never been more vital and necessary, both on a national and global level. Young people are our future and dance4life, through its programs, involves them, strengthens their voice and empowers them to take action to push back HIV and AIDS.

Armani Exchange is proud to support dance4life, as we strive to make a difference. For information about dance4life and how to get involved, go to www.dance4life.com.

Stars To Judge Contest For Arts Education

Imagine a world without art. Boring, right? DoSomething.org is once again asking teens to use their creative talent as a tool to advocate for arts education.

Make Art, Save Art is a campaign mobilizing young artists nationwide to advocate for the arts by submitting artwork and testimonials on the importance of arts education online at www.makeartsaveart.org and sharing those artistic expressions with their social networks (i.e. Facebook and Twitter).

The top 10 artists with the most shares through social media networks are entered into a finalist pool, and one artist will be selected by a panel of expert judges. The winner will receive a $5,000 grant for their school art program and a $1,000 college scholarship.

Judges include spokeswoman Tinsel Korey (The Twilight Saga) renowned photographer Nigel Barker, actress Yvette Nicole Brown (Community), Emilio Sosa (Designer/Founder ESOSA Inc, Project Runway, Cheri Ehrlich (Senior Museum Educator/Teen Programs Coordinator, Brooklyn Museum), Raman Frey (Co Owner, Frey Norris Contemporary & Modern Gallery), Christopher Vroom (Founder, Chairman and Executive Vice President of Artspace.com) and Calder Zwicky (Associate Educator, Teen and Community Programs, The Museum of Modern Art).

“You don’t have to literally be starving to be an artist,” says Christina Blacken who heads up arts programming at DoSomething.org. “We want to do our part to keep creativity alive.”

Arts education is being cut from schools nationwide. Studies show children who study music and the arts have higher grades, score better on standardized tests, have better attendance records, and are more active in the community than other students.

The seven-week campaign, in partnership with Fine Art America, will run through November 28. Artists can submit designs at any time during the campaign, and social “sharing” will launch November 11th.

Building off of the success from last year’s campaign, DoSomething.org is encouraging students to get friends and classmates involved. The more designs submitted, the stronger the case for keeping art in schools

Celebrities Remember Disney For Charity
The Great Ormond Street Hospital in London is asking people to share their first Disney memory – and when they reach a million memories, Disney will donate £1 million to the charity.
A number of celebrities – including Michael Caine, Melanie C, Thandie Newton and Julie Walters – have already added their first Disney memories to the campaign.
Whether it’s singing along to Mowgli and Baloo’s Bare Necessities at the cinema, to hiding behind the sofa from Snow White’s evil Queen Maleficent to meeting Mickey Mouse at Disneyland in Florida, you’re sure to have a first Disney memory. And by simply sharing yours on Facebook and helping spread the word about the campaign you can be instrumental in raising £1 million for an incredible cause.
“My memories were Snow White and Bambi,” says Sir Michael Caine. “I remember crying my eyes out when Bambi’s mother died in the forest and laughing my head off at the Seven Dwarfs.”
Million Disney Memories supports The Walt Disney Company’s ongoing commitment to raise £10 million for the charity. The funds raised by the Disney Appeal will help build the new medical centre at the hospital, and create an interactive play area. This area will inspire imagination, creativity and play and offer a welcome distraction from hospital routine to both patients and their families.
