Life After College-Job vs. Career

Hey readers!

This week I wanted to talk a little about the difference between a Job versus a Career. This is important for me right now, as it sort of goes in line with what you want to be when you grow up.

Currently, I do have a job. Don't get me wrong, it's a very good job. However, one thing I'm having to think about as I'm about to graduate (May 22nd!) is whether I can make a life out of this job. That is to say, whether my job will become a career.

I have to wonder:
Will I enjoy doing this 5 years from now?
Will it lead to better opportunities years from now?
Is there upward mobility in this industry?
Am I even interested in this industry?
What is the pay like? Can I survive on it or does it even matter?

There is a fun article here:
http://philawdelphia.wordpress.com/2007/08/17/job-vs-career-or-what-i-want-to-be-when-i-grow-up/

It takes a lighter view of the questions one often asks when trying to distinguish between the two. Some people are perfectly fine with working jobs, maybe two or three, forever. That's totally up to you. You can even have a career and a job on the side. Or you can just work towards a career. These are important things to think about when planning for the future.
Keep in mind, the best thing to do for yourself is to do what makes you happy. If you're happy working towards a career, then go for it. There will be lots of stresses and interviews and lots of change and you may have to move around the country a lot, but if you succeed and you are happy then that is the ultimate reward. Whatever your path is, be yourself and be happy!

Myself, I do love my job, and I am trying and planning to make a career out of it currently, so I am preparing myself for bigger and brighter things once I have my degree!!
