Outfit Recycling

Today's all about the best thing to recycle--CLOTHES!

With summer right around the corner, stores put their parkas into storage and whipping on the Bermuda shorts! But instead of spending all your cash on new stuff, go through your closet first. You'll be surprised at how many summer outfits you can re-use again!

Also, when you do decide to purchase, there are tons of stores promoting recycling with eco-friendly projects. For example, Walmart's new OP collection--sassy summer clothes that are eco-friendly too! Check it out at http://www.walmart.com/op.

So do some research before you shop!

And recycle. Your earth needs it :)

Nature at its Best

Hey Readers,

So I went to the Cherry Blossom Festival in D.C. last Sunday. The view was fantastically amazing. I have never been surrounded by so many gorgeous flowers at once. Everytime the wind rustled the branches the smell was intoxicating; pelts swirled from above, landing in my hair, fluttering down onto my lashes, tickling my nose and cheeks.

There were tulips too, bed after bed of tulips, in brilliantly vivid colors. And while I was frolicking--yes, frolicking--through these tulips, all I could think about was how wonderful nature is, and how if people would just look around they would realize that the planet they live on is radiant with beauty, natural beauty, the purest of pure.

We need to take care of our Earth.
It's our home, it's the only one we have.
So let's save it.
RECYCLE.
Save your planet, love your world :)

Hey Readers

I'm buried under a week and a half's worth of make-up work so I didn't get a chance to come up with anything spectacular for you to read today

BUT

I do have a word of advice: Although make-up word can be utterly tedious and often times unbearable, don't torch these assignments when you get them back (no matter how badly you want to).

Instead: Toss them in the recycling bin!

Save your planet :)

Spring Cleaning!

With spring right around the corner, I just wanted to remind all of you about some common household items that you might be tempted to throw away when you’re clearing out the clutter, but STOP, you can recycle them instead!

(Just as an FYI—When I say recycle, I don’t just mean sticking it in the blue bin at the curb and forgetting about it. This also includes the reuse or donation of certain items.)

Recyclable Trash:

Old school papers

Empty shoeboxes

Shoes that are too small

Cardboard backs of notebooks

Headphones (make sure to clean the ear-pieces with rubbing alcohol first)

Unwanted books/CD cases/posters

Empty water/shampoo/body spritzer bottles

Clothes that don’t fit

Extra bags (purses and/or backpacks)

Old magazines and calendars

Reading glasses you don't use anymore

If you can think of anymore, add to the list :)

Less Talk, More Action

This is what our world looks like...should always look like...
It's stunningly beautiful...

But because of our wasteful tendencies...this is what we could end up living in...

It's time for a change. It's time to GO GREEN.

Stop the Wasting!

I’m still on the whole ‘conserve water’ kick, but instead of just bottles, I’ve decided to broaden the scale. So here are some ways that you can save water around the house. Not only will this help the environment, but it’ll also reduce your water bill, leaving you with some extra spending money as well.

Take Shorter Showers
Tragic suggestion, I know. Cut my hot, steamy, relaxing showers short? Impossible! But you should. On average, a person really only needs four minutes to get squeaky clean, and that much time alone uses twenty to forty GALLONS of water. I'm not saying that your cutbacks need to be that extreme but at least try to keep the hour showers the a minimum.

"I never let the water run. No! I never let the water run."
That was most definitely my second favorite song on Barney (the first being the Green Grass song). In fact, I'm pretty sure that I was six years old and dancing around my living room, using my finger as a pretend toothbrush, when I learned that running the water while I brushed my teeth was a big no-no. It wasn't until later that I found out turning off the water while I brush saves about four gallons a minute. Pretty impressive, no?

Only fully loaded washers
Only run the dishwasher and washing machine when they're completely full. This is a great way to save water AND an even greater excuse for getting out of laundry and dish duty. It's a win-win.

"Mom, I'm not doing the dishes because I'm trying to save the world!"

Don't use running water to thaw food

The next time your parents ask you to grab the frozen meat out of the freezer and stick it under some water to thaw it out, don't switch the faucet on and leave the it there was the next ten minutes. Instead, fill the sink or a container up halfway and set your item in it.

Spread the word!

Encourage anyone and everyone you know to save water. It's quite easy and so, so good for our planet.

Save your water. Save your earth. It'll thank you later :)

Water, Water, Everywhere!

Hi Readers,
Here are five reasons for all you waterbottle drinkers to recycle the plastic bottles your water comes in:

1. Recycled plastic can be used to make things like trash cans, park benches, playground equipment, decks, and kayaks.

2. Today, Americans generate 10.5 million tons of plastic waste a year but recycle only 1 or 2 % of it.

3. Americans use 2.5 million plastic bottles every HOUR.

4. It takes over 1.5 million barrels of oil to manufacture a year’s supply of bottled water. That’s enough oil to fuel 100,000 cars.

5. Plastic bottles take 700 years before they BEGIN to decompose in a landfill.

Please, please, please recycle your water bottles. Your earth will thank you later :)

Please, Please, Please Save Paper!

First post! Hooray!

Hold onto your hats people and get ready to GO GREEN!

I want to start off by talking about my favorite thing to recycle: paper
Paper is probably one of the easiest things for teens to recycle. In school, at home, for fun—no matter how you spin it, teens are using a ridiculous amount of paper. According to the Resource Conservation Alliance, the average U. S. office employee uses 27 pounds of paper a year. Twenty seven pounds! That’s the weight of a small child!

Over your years spent on this planet, I’m sure you’ve accumulated your fair share of paper—notes passed during classes, old handouts and homework assignments, to-do lists, tests and quizzes from previous years, paper footballs, doodles from study hall, etc. Every single day teens do homework that they know they’re going to toss out as soon as the summer months roll around (or earlier.)

So instead of wasting paper on games like trashcan basketball, shoot that paper wad into a recycling bin! Most schools make this super easy for students by setting up some sort of paper-saving program. All you have to do is bring in your extra paper, drop it in the small, blue bin with the circulating arrows on it, and they take care of the rest.

If your school doesn’t provide this type of service visit www.recyclingcenters.org/ to find a recycling center in your area.

Save the trees. They’ll thank you later :)
