Daily Good Gossip

LIVING IN A MATERIAL WORLD: Kelly Osbourne was photographed at a series of iconic New York locales for the fall Material Girl campaign, which will break in September magazines.

Using the tag line “MG+NYC,” the campaign shows Osbourne in Times Square, SoHo, the West Village, Washington Square Park and at the Top of the Rock and was shot by Brooke Nipar. It is a follow-up to Osbourne’s spring campaign, which was photographed at two East Village dive bars.

“We have both enjoyed working with Kelly and are thrilled to have her on board for the launch of the fall 2011 collection,” said Madonna, whose Material Girl juniors line is a joint venture with Iconix Brand Group Inc. and carried exclusively at Macy’s. Her daughter, Lourdes Leon, helps design the collection and serves as a public face for it.

The fall media buy includes People StyleWatch, Nylon, Seventeen, Teen Vogue and Cosmopolitan, in addition to outdoor — including a Times Square billboard and the Macy’s Jumbotron in Herald Square — and online celebrity and fashion blogs like Cocoperez.com.

“Material Girl is so connected to New York, and we wanted to shoot in different locations that expressed the different sides of the Material Girl customer,” said Dari Marder, chief marketing officer at Iconix Brand Group.

Material Girl has been one of the best performing launches at Macy’s in the past year, said Martine Reardon, executive vice president of marketing and advertising at the department store. The line launched in 200 doors last August, expanded to 250 doors this past spring and will be in 300 doors this fall. “We have seen a new customer come into Macy’s for this collection, and the goal is to continue to grow it within our stores,” said Reardon.

Twisted Tweens- Tween/Teen Celebs That Make a Difference!

On TV, in magazines, on the internet, it is always reported all the negative things that are going on in the lives of tween/teen celebrities. First of all, what people need to realize is that most of what is reported is completely not true! Negativity and gossip unfortunately sells... Many people enjoy seeing others fail, and love to find ways to bring people down.

Well, we think it is time to give these tween/teen celebs a chance to show what they are really doing with their free time! The compassionate, loving, giving sides of them, that the media chooses to neglect.

Our next few blogs will be showing you that many celebs are going out of their way to make a positive difference in the lives of the people around them in the world. Many of them have charities that they support. We hope our series of "Tween/Teen Celebs that make a Difference" will not only show you what great things they are doing, but inspire you to find a way that you can give back in your own community!

Charity- definition: goodwill toward or love of humanity, generosity and helpfulness especially toward the needy or suffering

Community service does not just mean giving money. Sometimes just giving of your time is what is needed. It could be helping out at your local food bank, or as simple as helping the little old lady down the street carry in her groceries, and put them away. You will find, that finding a way to make others feel better really ends up making you feel pretty darn good too!

So favorite this blog- because starting next week we will be featuring our first celeb who makes a difference! And believe us when we tell you, that it will be someone you know and love...

Twisted Tween- No Voice No Choice!

This weeks blog is a subject that is going to make you question if anything anyone says is true!
For example, if you are going to watch a show called Teen Choice Awards wouldn't you think that the awards were chosen by the teens? In this particular case the answer is - NOT!

Finding this information out was a huge disappointment to us, and everyone we know. We went out of our way to take the time to get online and vote for the people that we thought deserved to win. If we knew that we were wasting our time, and that our votes were not actually deciding the winner, we would not have wasted our time!

Posted on the screen for a second of the awards show was this:
"Winners for the teen choice awards were determined through voting on the teenchoiceawards.com website. The results of the voting were tabulated electronically by teenchoiceawards.com and confirmed by a committee of Fox representatives. Teenasaurus Rox Inc had the right to determine the winners from among the top four vote getters of the nominees in each of 88 catagories. Ultimate choice was determined solely by the producers."

Sound like teen choice to you? Sounds like producers choice to us! And they chose from the top 4? At least if they had chosen from the top 2 it would have been slightly more fair! Either way it was absolutely NOT teen choice...

iCarly had better ratings than all the other shows it was up against- and yet did not receive one TCA? Does this make sense to you? Seems pretty fishy to us! We think they got totally robbed! Everyone we know watches iCarly, and everyone we know voted. Were our voices heard? Maybe they were heard, but completely ignored. Oh how we hate to be ignored, don't you? This should also be upsetting to the people that won. When you win something you want to win fair and square. In this case why did they bother to even have the teens vote? The producers could of had their winners in mind all along! Again- NOT TEEN CHOICE!

So next year, unless they release a statement saying that they have changed their voting rules and decision making process we have one word for them.... Boycott!

So that is our rant for the week.
Keep it real! H and C

Twisted Tweens- Is it true?

OK, this week we heard something that has rocked the tween/teen world.
iCarly is filming episodes until the end of August and then it's over. No more
iCarly...
Popstar Magazine posted a video on twitter that showed Nathan Kress aka
"Freddie" of iCarly saying this.
We watched it-he said it!
He said they were pushing to film a bunch of episodes by the end of August, and that would be it.
Saying the show had been on a long time, but not to worry the episodes they would be
filming would last for many more months.
Now Nathan is saying he has no idea where people came up with this! How
about because it came out of his own mouth? The video has now been mysteriously
removed...
Everyone we know loves iCarly, and found this news really disappointing!
Dan Schneider (the producer of iCarly) recently stated that the rumours are
not true. Why would Nathan say it then? Why? Is it true? Guess we will all have to wait
to find out! Keep it real- H and C

Learning Curve: The Journey

I'm a Disney kid. I was raised on Disney movies, televison, and radio. This doesn't go over well with a lot of my college peers. I guess they see it as something childish that should be abandoned during adolesence. Me? I'm a firm believer in Never Land and have plans to escape there with my younger sister after we kidnap Nick Jonas & Orlando Bloom. KIDDING! Growing up is important, but don't ever fear giving up something you love to satisfy others or maintain an image.

For the last several weeks, every time I turn on the TV, Miley Cyrus's face has been plastered all over the place, promoting her new movie: Hannah Montana The Movie. I have yet to see the movie, hopefully I can go next weekend with my best friend while I'm home for my brithday and the Taylor Swift concert!!! Anyway, there's a song in this movie that I will forever equate with my college journey: The Climb. If you haven't heard it (which is hard to believe) look it up on Youtube. It's worth the listen.

The song talks about dreams and how things can block you from achieving these dreams. There's a stanza that really resonates with me. It says

"The struggles I'm facing
The chances I'm taking
Sometimes might knock me down but
No, I'm not breaking
I may not know it
But these are the moments that
I'm gonna remember most"

College is not the easiest thing. It's not an all day party, but it's not an all day study session either. You have to be willing to take chances and put yourself out there. Meet new people, experience new things. They may not turn out just the way you expected them to. Classes are going to be hard and some professors will be down right mean. Don't let it get you down. The good experiences outweigh the bad ones. College is going to be the one experience you'll remember for the rest of your life, so make it a story worth retelling someday.

What am I doing to make my story one that I want to tell over and over again? Tonight, I'm going to watch The Curious Case of Benjamin Button on the football field with a bunch of other Brad Pitt fans.

I challenge each of you this week to get out there and DO SOMETHING that makes your story worth being heard. Get involved in a new club, make a new friend, help someone at the store, smile to a complete stranger. Make your journey one to remember.

Political Drama Column--Bernard Madoff off the Jail---What do you think?

Justice was served yesterday. Bernard Madoff has plead guilty to all 11 charges against him. The real justice would be if he could stay alive and serve the entire 150 yr sentence. Not likely since he is 70.
I guess you have heard that our "recession" is now being called a "mild depression". Doesn't make me feel any better. Here is one really sobering fact. Our homes have lost over 11 trillion dollars in value. I can't even begin to understand that number. Most of the homes in this country have probably lost almost half their value.
Here's something you probably didn't know; we have lost 28% of our billionaires. The top three are Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and Carlos Slim. Even these three have lost billions. Would somebody please pass the bread and water.
The news is so depressing, but our President seems to have plenty of enthusiasm not only working on the economic recovery, but also health care, energy and education. I think we have the right guy on the job. He was going to take a "pause for the cause" to see if the Republicans in Congress could come up with some new ideas, but nada. No cigar, zilch. They all seemed to be intellectually bankrupt. Must be eating too much pork. Speaking of pork, Has anyone seen King Rush I? Looks like he's misplaced his crown and just staying in his bat cave. Maybe Ann Coulter stole it???. See you next week.

Friday the 13th Websites

Hi Everyone!

After being culturally obligated to talk about Valenine's Day last week, I have decided that this week I would feature Friday The 13th websites in order to make up for "neglecting" the holiday last week.

You may think that there are no websites for a holiday like Friday the 13th, but there are.

Here's the breakdown:

A bit about the history of Friday the 13th (http://www.opinionjournal.com/taste/?id=110009086)- This site explores why we fear the 13th and whether or not more unlucky accidents occur on this auspicious day.

"Cures" for Friday the 13th (http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2004/02/0212_040212_friday13.html)- This articles explores the origin of Friday the 13th like the website about, but it also offers suggestions for those who have trouble coping with superstitions.

Friday the 13th Factoids (http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20090213/sc_livescience/13factsaboutfridaythe13th)- How many Friday the 13ths will there be this year?

Funny Superstitions (http://www.islandnet.com/~luree/silly.html)- A long list of superstitions and their origins. Some of these I hadn't heard of before.

Stories of Bad Luck on the 13th (http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/chat/your_comments/newsid_3486000/3486123.stm)- Read about other people's bad (and even good) luck on Friday the 13th. Scroll down to see.

Good Luck,

Privileged on the CW---Posh's Review

Did all of you watch Privileged last night? Wow...I was sitting on the edge of my sofa the entire time. What do you think is going to happen to Megan and Will? They are so complicated! All they are doing is fighting. Stop fighting guys, you are killing me! I can't believe Sage has felt like she is the cause of her parents death. She has been holding this in her entire life. Now the cat is out of the bag on everything, from their grandmother's lover being their grandfather, to Sage's secret, and now Rose knows that Megan knew about their grandfather! Rose is growing up right before our eyes and now she wants to move out of her room she shares with Sage and move to the Blue Room. OMG
It was almost too much for me to digest last night. Oh, and now this goofy guy David the Editor of Will's fathers new Magazine is TMTH (too much to handle). Oh, please don't let Megan end up with him. This guy just thinks he is something, but you know he so wants to break Megan and Will up. He is not giving Megan a chance to pitch her ideas because she is in a relationship with Will, oh give me a break, David.
Oh and BTW Marco is getting back with his man, that was a very cute and kind of awkward moment. Well hopefully I didn't spoil the show if you have not seen it! If you have not seen it, you are missing out. In two weeks Privileged will have their season finale, stay tuned for the drama.

Mariposa's Connections: What to do for Valentine's Day

There's the chocolates, the flowers, the stuffed animals, the jewelry, etc. for Valentines Day. But do you really just want to buy something for your valentine? Do you want to do something that's expected - a routine? Here's some ideas for mixing it up:

-Have flowers delivered to your valentine's door.

-Go out to dinner or a concert: after all, what's more special than spending time with that person?

-Do something random: leave a little note with a poem somewhere obvious, give a phone call telling them you love them, or even try singing a song.

Sometimes the thought means so much more than the money ;)

For those who don't have a valentine, hang out with your friends or do something fun - it's usually hard being alone on Feb.14, so set aside some time to do something you want to do.
