Daily Good Gossip

The stars will read specially selected children’s books to an adult audience, simulating what volunteers in Bellevue Hospital’s Pediatric Clinic do every day as part of the Reach Out and Read program. The Starry Night Stories event will celebrate the 15th anniversary of the program.
Children of Bellevue’s Reach Out and Read encourages reading aloud as a regular, joyful home activity that can improve language development, parent child interactions and school success.
For the past 15 years, pediatricians, parent educators, and volunteer readers have worked together to advise parents about the importance of reading aloud and to give books to children at pediatric checkups from 6 months through 5 years of age, with a special focus on children growing up in poverty.
Children of Bellevue’s Reach Out and Read is part of National Reach Out and Read (ROR), an evidence-based nonprofit organization that promotes early literacy and school readiness in pediatric exam rooms nationwide by giving new books to children and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud. ROR is offered in all 50 states, Washington DC, and on U.S. Military bases overseas.
The event – which takes place on October 3 at Florence Gould Hall, 55 East 59th Street, New York City – will also include hors d’oeuvres and wine reception.

Selena Gomez Bumps Justin Bieber From The No. 1 Spot On Social 50

Until this week, only four acts had ruled the still-young Social 50 chart: Rihanna, the Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber. But now, we have a new No. 1 artist: Selena Gomez.
And, in an ironic twist, Gomez takes the crown by bumping her boyfriend, Justin Bieber, out of the top slot, and sends him to No. 2.
Gomez skips 5-1 this week thanks to online buzz generated by the release of her third album, "When the Sun Goes Down," on June 28.
The Social 50 ranks the most active artists on the world's leading social networking sites -- YouTube, Vevo, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and iLike -- using a formula blending weekly additions of friends/fans/followers along with weekly artist page views and weekly song plays.
What did it take for Gomez to dethrone the Biebs?
First, all of the promotion leading up to her album's release, along with the success of its single "Love You Like a Love Song" helped. The latter has already garnered 10 million views on Vevo. In addition, the July 1 premiere of her romantic comedy "Monte Carlo" didn't hurt either.

Jessica & Ashlee Simpson have created a new Tween Fashion Line- OMG

Jessica & Ashlee Simpson New Tween Fashion Line: Is It Any Good?

Jessica Simpson, Ashlee SimpsonFlynetpictures.com
Talk about a sister act!
Jessica Simpson is expanding her $1 billion fashion empire with a tween clothing line that's set to launch the end of this year. And little sis Ashlee Simpson is getting in on the fashion action, too.
How will Ash be involved?
The erstwhile Melrose Place star is cocreative director of the line—aimed at trendy 7- to 16-year-olds—alongside her big sister, reports Women's Wear Daily.
"I'm excited to bring my sister...to this division," Jess tells WWD, "because she brings a savvy rocker edge that defines today's tweens."
And Ash chimed in, "My goal...will be to design clothes that will help inspire young girls to express their personalities and creativity through fashion."
Check out some of the Simpson sisters' leggings, tees and faux fur vests from the collection below (no Daisy Dukes or bowler hats in sight, whew!) and tell us, would you buy these for the little sister/niece/daughter in your life?

Kelly Clarkson: "Let Me Down" First Listen!

Offering up a sneak peek into her forthcoming album, Kelly Clarkson's "Let Me Down" has made its way to the Internet.  Back in May, a small snippet of the rumored to be new single leaked, and now the track's full-version has hit the Web.  The song, possibly a part of Kelly's not-yet-titled forthcoming record (out in October), is a mash-up between her angst-worthy pop/rock tunes and her belted-out anthems.  When asked about her inspiration for her newest musical contemplation, Clarkson told fans, “This album was influenced by Prince, Tina Turner, Sheryl Crow, Radiohead and there’s a little bit of a country vibe/influence on a couple of songs."

Justin Timberlake's Manager Says They're Mulling Talent Competiton For Revamped Myspace

"We want to bring the industry back to Myspace to really look at the talented people that have put their faces there," says Johnny Wright, who promises that he and Timberlake will unveil plans for the beleaguered social network at an August 17 press conference.
Justin Timberlake's longtime manager Johnny Wright said on Friday July 2 that a talent show or some other way of developing new artists will be core to the revamp of Myspace.
"Whether it becomes a talent competition or something like that, those are things that we will still flesh out," said Wright, who has managed Timberlake since his 'N Sync days. "We definitely want to bring the industry back to Myspace to really look at the talented people that have put their faces there."
Timberlake and the new management of the social networking site will explain their plans at a press conference Aug. 17.
His new partner is Irvine, Calif.-based online ad network operator, Specific Media. It said Wednesday afternoon that it had bought Myspace from News Corp. The deal was for $35 million, mostly in stock.
Hours later, Specific Media said in a second release that Timberlake had become a part owner and would be a creative force behind the social network's revival with his own office and staff.
Timberlake's partnership deal hadn't been completed until 30 minutes before Specific Media's Myspace purchase was made public.
It capped a rushed courtship, starting with an idea hatched by Nicole Winnaman, a branding executive who has also worked with Timberlake since his 'N Sync days.
She knew the people at Specific Media, including its founding brothers, Tim, Chris and Russell Vanderhook, and got approval from Wright to explore a partnership two weeks ago.
The Vanderhooks jumped aboard on Thursday last week, without even knowing they'd win the bidding for Myspace.
"It was the Thursday before. They said, 'Let's go, let's see if we can pull this together,' " Winnaman said.
Wright, Winnaman and the Vanderhooks met Friday last week at Los Angeles International Airport for a meal and conference call with Timberlake, who was in New York. They all met again in New York late Tuesday afternoon, where everyone was "instantaneously aligned," Winnaman said. Lawyers worked through the night before the deal was announced Wednesday.
Wright said Timberlake is anxious to get to work. The day after the deal closed, Timberlake sent Wright an e-mail saying, "Are you up? My mind is going dizzy with ideas. I need to talk."

Kelly Osbourne in the fall Material Girl campaign.
LIVING IN A MATERIAL WORLD: Kelly Osbourne was photographed at a series of iconic New York locales for the fall Material Girl campaign, which will break in September magazines.

Using the tag line “MG+NYC,” the campaign shows Osbourne in Times Square, SoHo, the West Village, Washington Square Park and at the Top of the Rock and was shot by Brooke Nipar. It is a follow-up to Osbourne’s spring campaign, which was photographed at two East Village dive bars.

“We have both enjoyed working with Kelly and are thrilled to have her on board for the launch of the fall 2011 collection,” said Madonna, whose Material Girl juniors line is a joint venture with Iconix Brand Group Inc. and carried exclusively at Macy’s. Her daughter, Lourdes Leon, helps design the collection and serves as a public face for it.

The fall media buy includes People StyleWatch, Nylon, Seventeen, Teen Vogue and Cosmopolitan, in addition to outdoor — including a Times Square billboard and the Macy’s Jumbotron in Herald Square — and online celebrity and fashion blogs like Cocoperez.com.

“Material Girl is so connected to New York, and we wanted to shoot in different locations that expressed the different sides of the Material Girl customer,” said Dari Marder, chief marketing officer at Iconix Brand Group.

Material Girl has been one of the best performing launches at Macy’s in the past year, said Martine Reardon, executive vice president of marketing and advertising at the department store. The line launched in 200 doors last August, expanded to 250 doors this past spring and will be in 300 doors this fall. “We have seen a new customer come into Macy’s for this collection, and the goal is to continue to grow it within our stores,” said Reardon.

Twisted Tweens: Collaboration for All Ages

At age sixteen, I must admit that most of my friends are close to my age. Still, I have plenty of exceptions. For instance, I'm friends with the younger sister of my best friend. I'll call this girl G, because I want to relate a fun experience that I had with her, and I don't wish to call her The Younger Sister Of My Best Friend every time I mention her.

G is nine. She is a curious, inventive and funny Tween. She loves cats. She has created her own language. And she is a stunning writer. When writing a story, she weaves all of her curiosity, inventiveness, humor and cats straight into it. I had the grand privilege, recently, to weave a story with her.

Of course, we didn't write an instant classic. Indeed, you won't see Alex Wubzy and His Woeful Troubles pushing Harry Potter off the shelves. But it was fun – extremely fun. Our only aim, in fact, was to have fun. Yet I glimpsed the possibilities, and I saw how valuable it is to collaborate with people of different ages.

Collaborate means “to work jointly or together.” Many people find it difficult to collaborate with anyone. So, when a person does have to collaborate, she or he attempts to find someone who is at least a similar age. The world is designed this way: in schools, kids are assigned to work with their classmates; in workplaces, adults must work with other adults; in nursing homes, elderly people plan escapes with other elderly people. Now, wouldn't it be nice to mix all of this up?

Maybe I just feel excited from my successful experience with G, but I think that collaboration between adults and Tweens and Teens is the future! Maybe I've just been supported by some opportunistic people who believe in equality, but I think there are lots of these people. Amazing things are waiting to happen, and I'm not going to let a difference in birthday candles obstruct anything.

So, post a comment. What do you think about collaborating with someone older than you? Or younger than you? On the same note, have you ever worked with someone who is at least five years older or younger than you? If you ask your parents about their experiences, remind them that a 37 year old working with a 32 year old does not count. Still, what do they think?

Have a good week!

Zachary
